Yes, I said NEW ORLEANS, as in NOLA. I sent it to one of buddies in NOLA & thought I would share with you. Here is the link to find out more. http://www.mydestination.com/bordeaux/events/73 Bordeaux is a LOVELY place & people are super, extra nice. And now you don't have to travel to New Orleans to hear great music, it's coming to you! 🎶🎶 (thoughtful or what?) While in Bordeaux please go to the galleries & support the local artist (some of the best up & coming younger artists are there too,) And be prepared to have a wonderful time. See you at the airport ✈ Hi everyone! Hope your Almost Weekend is off to a good start! It's been a really busy/crazy week for me. But exercise and eating right really help keep the stress down. And shopping helps too. LOL There is nothing like coming in from a long day at work to find parcels on the porch. Yeah! One of the parcels was a new WD Passport 3.0 External HardDrive for my MacBook. Yeah! I can has back ups now! I bought new off Ebay and got a really sweet deal! I love a Bargain! And... My Beauty Diary Facial Masks - Vit-C Lemon masks. 10 for $13.97 which is really expensive. :( Was from Amazon. My friends swear by them, so I am going to give them a try. I really like the When 10 O'clock Masks. Hope these are as good. You really have to take extra care of your skin when you travel! And... Saved a ton of money buying a lot of 10 New Copic assorted markers on eBay. I paid around $25.00 (they sell for $7.00 -$10.00each)!! :D And... Also bought this new Hologram Nail Polish that everyone is raving about. Cannot wait to try it out! It looks awesome! I'll post about it when I have time to actually do my nails :( I also bought stuff @ the Health Food Store & Baby Shop (See blog post on New Braunfels) + The normal stuff this week: Food, Office supplies, Fast Food, etc. But I count all that as Boring. So didn't bother with it. LOL + Super Busy week @ Work & trying to spend time with Family & Friends -- so MUCH to do before I leave the U.S. again. I surprised my family with Beigents this week too. They are not something I make often as it can be pretty messy & I HATE cleaning the kitchen after. So I know I didn't take any pictures after the dough was rolled out. (I had flour everywhere and didn't want on camera!) I heated the oil in a fry daddy and used a drinking glass to cut the dough in small parts. I deep fried for less than 5 minutes & drained well before sprinkling with sugar. I fry the "ends" too. So I end up with odd shapes, but EVERYTHING gets eaten. :) It made 3 plates full! They are MUCH prettier in New Orleans @ Cafe Du Monde. *Recipe is on the box, its easy- you can do it! :D After you are finished cooking, make everyone GO OUTSIDE to EAT. The sugar goes everywhere! You will be covered in powered sugar. Serve with Coffee, Hot Cococ or Milk. We ate on the patio and there was a slight breeze, the sugar went everywhere, hence my shoulder being covered, lol. So don't wear good clothes cooking this OR eating! (Notice I was not in black for a change even, lol) One more random thing from this week... The Texas Weather 3 days apart and look at the temps! 52'-93' Crazy! There was a BIG storm in North Texas (not near my part of the state) Wednesday night. People were killed and a bunch are still missing. Bad, Bad, Bad. Heart goes out those families. :( We didn't even get any rain. :0 Remember Texas is a BIG place. And one last thought.. Some of my friends from New Orleans are coming down next month! :D So we are planning adventures, Rick is calling me & that can never be good.. Always leads to trouble...(see Feb Blog Post--Goodbye to my Canon) LOL The time before that; he was here and we were watching TV one night and my Big Screen just up and died WTF?!?...Yes, I blamed him for that too.. LOL
Anyway- got to hide the electronics and go back to the office, Catch you later- I noticed sometime while I was in New Orleans, both Roxann & I turned into sailors. Rough, Salty Sailors. Every other word out of our mouths was fuck, "fuck this, fuck that"...wtf? Not that I was a angel before then... but I use it so liberally in my blog because this is how I type texts & in real life my speech is peppered with wtfs as well. Why should I change my personality on my blog to make other people happy? Your reading a blog I wrote dealing with MY LIFE & ADVENTURES. I do refrain from raining insults down on people & picking sides in the current Political Debacle; You’re welcome. :/ The other common phrases I use now are: "fuck me running!" & "People are so fucking crazy?" in wonderment, but I don't want to write about that... Stories I could tell you about people doing things that make no sense. Because it seems my friends and I are the only ones noticing these things? Like people doing horrible, unthinkable things to each other; for no apparent reason and nothing is ever solved or explained later on? No follow-ups other than sensationalism. No, I think there is way too much of that being talked now. And not in a “lets try & heal/understand” dialogue, but more as "thrilling/rape the people" Bull Shit disguised as journalism. (You feel me?) That’s the kind of writing that poisons everything around it, that’s the kind of writing, less the cussing; that is really offensive. So go pick on them or go fuck yourself. Your call. I guess what I'm trying to say is if my writing offends you, then leave. It will probably only get more distasteful (& more real) as the blog grows & gets more personal. So I left NOLA & headed home via Houston to Austin. The NOLA airport is actually in Kenner & that's why a taxi to the quarter cost so much. Think Heathrow & central London. So I am amusing myself in airport... They do have fast & FREE wifi! Austin, Texas airport. I swear they should have a baggage claim just for guitars, oh wait they do! Lolol My new "travel" purse worked out really well, except its meant to be worn like a pack back & I took my pack back..the only time I wore both was in airports and it was difficult. :( But other than that worked well. I am always searching for a good all purpose travel bag. Do you have a good one? So anyway, I go to long-term parking & pick up my truck and off I go. About 5 miles down the road I feel the front start to "knock" OH SHIT! So I find a safe (hahah like that’s a joke!) place to pull over and check the tires. Nothing-- they all look fine. WTF?!? Ok, I convince myself that it must have been rough or uneven road or something and go on. As I leave Austin & speed up it gets MUCH worse. OH NO! So now I am in the country and I HAVE To stop. There isn't even a shoulder now. I am determined to stop at the 1st driveway/alley/cattle guard/road that I can find. So I finally come up on one.. (Why is it always like that?) and as I turn in I notice I have pulled into a church school. Ok, cool I guess. I jump out and see the problem. I am in the process of having a blow out! I am so thankful this didn't happen at 2:30 a.m. in the pouring rain & hail when I was driving IN to Austin. The rain was so bad I missed my turn & had to circle back. (Glamorous travel stuff, huh?) I boarded the F’ing plane before 4:30 a.m. which explains why I was so tired & some of my earlier crappy pictures from the beginning of the trip. (I apologize again, the crappy ones from Jimmy Buffets were because I had a date & I don’t see him that often.) *shy :X Anyway, the flight back was a lot better. I think it was around 3:00 pm when all this is going on. So I get out & walk around the school. I find a group of men. They do not speak English. So I talk to them in Tex-Mex with a few words of French thrown in for good measure and sign language. I tell them if they change tire for me I give them$$. They seem to be very afraid of me and will not even go near the truck or me. (WTF?) At this point I need to state I was dressed civilized and appropriate for church even (I pulled on a long sleeve blouse and almost had heat stroke, but ok) I was not mad, excited or afraid, but thinking back on it how odd? I was surrounded by a group of men and they were afraid of me??? 1 crazy white woman?? (Also so much for these men being Christians and helping a poor traveler?!) IDK Maybe there has been a rash of single, smartly dressed white women luring men to their deaths recently in South Austin? I went back to the truck and started calling people and had someone was there to fix the tire quickly. But THE POINT is WTF? Telling this story to my friends their questions: (+All of them " Why didn't you call me?" how sweet, huh? I am soo lucky to have so many good people in my life.) Anyway, Friend #1: Where you wearing your Rob Zombie T-Shirt? Me: NO Dylan: Where you waving a sword around? Me: No Friend #2: Where you insulting them in Spanish? Me: Not in the beginning. BF: You could have been killed! Me: Hardly, relax. Rick: I pity them if they had messed with you. Me: ? Now, don't get me wrong. I am glad they did not harass me. Cause I take no shit. But a little help with the tire would have been nice. I ended up walking around and taking pictures of the area while I was waiting. And no one said Boo to me. IDK, maybe I had been strolling around the Quarter for a few days and just wasn't really scared of much and they sensed it? Who knows. *Struts like a badass now* Grotto So it all worked out & I made it home ok. Just made for another adventure. LOL
Now, I'm off to capture the next kingdom and take the dragons for a walk. Later- So I actually did a little work (really) and went to see another old friend. We walked around, did a little shopping had a nice dinner and caught up. & I realized just how much I miss him...:( Jackson Square Forgot to really take any photos at 2nd hotel. It was the Sheraton & was nice, expensive & full of people. Jazz Fest + a convention. Lobby was huge, had t-shirts, event tickets, Starbucks, lounge, wine tasting, etc. No pictures because everytime I went to check it out got hit on by random businessmen - so left quickly. WTF?! Do I look like I want to chat? Grr I couldn't even get coffee @ Starbucks for all the crazy men milling about. :X Luckily my guy brought me coffee. :) Walked around the French Market, which seemed to be deserted? Went to the Flea Market too. It is getting to be more and more imported junk. I miss the days when it was local handmade stuff. But I guess they have to bring in what sells. I didn't take any photos there, or buy anything. Tradition is that I eat at at least 1 meal in Margaritaville, why? I dont' have a clue. hahaha Always feel weird taking pictures of the menu..like It's rude. But can never remember what food cost either. I guess I like the place because the colors are so bright & intense. Cause truth be told I am not overly fond of the Caribbean. But I do like Florida (a lot) Oh! and they do make a GREAT MARGARITA! Parts of our dinner, after I remembered to take photos, lol I did actually buy this....for my mother! I found out a couple of years back (when I took her to the Quarter) that she has a "thing" for Jimmy Buffet. She didn't want a t-shirt, so I got her this. She calls them "toothpick holders" we know them as shot glasses, but hey..whatever. LOL I could do a complete post on her "toothpick" holders, she has so many. Also stopped by Peaches records. Didn't know they were still pressing Vinyl?! But clerk told us some of the records were original (as in back in the day?! WTF !) & some newly pressed! Who knew? 2J's ahh memories... Do you see a theme here? LOL I did buy Beignet Mix..I was out at home. You can order off Amazon, but it just feels wrong, lol And another. Lovely end to a lovely day...
Random Bits, Mostly Shopping- Warning Picture Heavy Post So this is a good example of the shops. (Keep scrolling) You NAME it and its there. BUT you do have to know where to look. WTF, right? Prices vary from shop to shop too. Some are open late at night too, it also varies. I was out with Rox on this excursion and we looked at jewelry, household stuff and food. She is about to move, so she was sorta shopping for stuff for her new house. Cute stuff, but I didn't buy anything...Wasn't in the mood. So I have no idea the time, but it's really humid & I'm ready to eat again, lol I really NEED that pillow. What do you think? There are a lot of nice things on Rue Royal. Something for every taste and budget. Went back to the Sheraton and cleaned up for supper. Sunset- Chillin Before I showered & went out again. Ate at the Palace Cafe (see?) but forgot camera and was too busy eating to be bothered with snapping any photos with the iphone even. The food is good and reasonably priced. Do check it out if you are in the area. So it got dark and went back to window shop some more & check out a club or two. More rambling around shopping in the Quarter. This is kinda a crappy picture, but it does lend the right "mood" to how the streets feel at night. Some of the Window Displays were soooo pretty! LOVE these lamps! So pretty :0 You KNOW YOU NEED a hand carved fuseball table! Another Random shot of the Streets. People Milling about & everyone having fun! The Moon was full and really, really pretty! Some of the buildings are still a work in progress.. Since it is one of the Oldest Parts of the US there are strict rules on what one can do to the buildings here. None are torn down and modern ones put up & prices are sky high to rent or purchase. Here's a nicer looking one, don't want to scare you! There are a lot of art galleries too. More interesting Window displays...Like have no idea what these store sold, lol
Ok, thats all for now. The night went on and so did we, hahaha But I'm tired of editing pictures. Later- I was super excited to be back in New Orleans! So I flew into Louisiana from Texas. It's a short flight, actually I usually drive, but I wasn't able to take off as long as I had hoped, so flew in to make the most of my time. BUT- it takes approx. 8 hours to drive..it took me 8 hours from the time I left the house until I reached the Hotel? WTF?? There was a storm that delayed the flight, then we had to fly way around and over the gulf to reach NOLA. There was flooding (nothing unusual there) and a tornado warning. BUT it was over in a few hours after I reached the hotel. Thank Goodness! My friends that are not familiar with where/what I'm talking about I have added a few maps. (If you know, then just keep scrolling, K?) Cause I HATE: when I read about some cool place I want to go in YOUR BLOGS and there is no map and I have to google and do not even know if I'm in the right country. WYF?! So bloggers include a map, for me, Please- Heavy Picture Post- don't say I didn't warn you! I have stayed all over the city & surrounding towns. (Super hard to get a room during Mardi Gras. Book 1 year ahead if you want to be on the Parade route or close by) But my favorite place to stay is the French Quarter. It's one of the oldest areas in the U. S. Pat O'Briens less the rain. So this is one of the hotels I stayed in, (Pictures below.) I had to change because I was trying to book a condo and they could only accommodate 3 days, but then by the time I got the hotel booked for the earlier dates it was booked, so I needed up in yet another hotel for the rest of my stay. #FML But really it all worked out for the best though, I guess. My friends all asked me to stay with them, but I do not want to impose. *shy* Aren't these awesome? These are REAL FLOWERS and there is more on the piano. Nice Bar area. They offered FREE high Speed WIFI and also had this cute business center. Have a drink and check your email! My room was actually big for the Quarter. Remember that if you stay there, you don't go to stay in the room, you go to party, see the sights and listen to great music. I booked all the hotels through HOTWIRE and all was fine, as usual. Each wanted about $100.USD for extras..I gave them cash and they returned the cash when I checked out. There was no other charges added. So I knew going in what my stay was going to cost and how much I could BS away. I can't tell you anything about the cable, TV, etc. I didn't even turn it on... If you follow me on GETGLUE you know I suck at watching TV, but WTF I do have a pretty fun life. Big ass Bed, comfy too- And outside is pretty nice too. This is right after the storm, so keep that in mind. Meeting friends in the bar and then WE ARE OFF! Much talking, laughing and catching up later... :) Ended up really late and we just had Little Caesars Pizza! Hahaha Sinful, but really good! LOL I had been up like 36 + hours by this time and was ready to just sleep. Jazz Fest was about to start and people were pouring in from everywhere. Met quite a few over Breakfast, LOL. It was really nice & FREE at the hotel the next morning. Forgot to take pictures (told you am NOT a foodie) Checked into another Hotel & then me and a buddy went out for... :X Can't remember which I posted so here are both, LOL. There were tons of people at Cafe Du Monde. So this was like our brunch. This is the FULL Menu. Thats all you need though- lol #bestfoodever See random People everywhere in Cafe Du Monde Forgot we went to the Jazz Park 1st. It was by the hotel I checked out of and across the Quarter from Cafe Du Monde. It was redone after Katrina and the city really made a BIG DEAL about it, so I wanted to see it. It was really pretty, but no one was there (it was 10:30 or so a.m.) The mant. people saw us, but locked the gate on us..We did get out (well duh) but had to walk around a bit to find an open exit. (I'm telling you everyday is an adventure..) Roses took a beating from all that heavy rain. :( Maybe we can escape through here? It became overcast again and looked like rain, but then ended up clearing off...WTF like Texas weather?! Wanted to get closer, but everything was really wet...Figured I sink down to my knees in mud...Not cool in High heel boots! Another locked gate, WTF? We ended up going over 2 bridges, but did get out. Too funny!
Anyway, there is soo much more and so many more photos. Jazz Cruise, Shopping, The Quarter at night, etc.. Wil work on posts. Catch you later~ Really Random Day... Hung out with my nephew today. Haven't really seen him much lately. He recently moved back to this part of Texas. My brother is a lot older than I am, so my nephew is a grown man. (Although I still think of him as a kid, lol) So we went shopping, ran errands and had lunch together. It was really nice. This is what he wanted for lunch...ewww! I did not eat that, of course. I had tacos, but won't bore you with a picture of my bean & cheese taco. I wanted to buy a few plants for the front flower beds...No, I did not buy a Palm tree. But I do like them. So it was a really random day...
But was really nice to spend some time with him and catch up. Busy week ahead....talk soon! Hello! I was so tired when I woke up this morning I was wishing for someone to make me a cup of coffee and pour it into my mouth, because I did not think I could move! Been so busy at work and with home projects that I am exhausted. But move I did. I even found time to visit Ms Y and her husband just back from Ecuador. They were so sweet as to bring me back this SUPER soft cape jacket! SO PRETTY! AND AND And a really nice knitted scarf in pretty purple. Isn't this too cute! Super nice of them to think of me! No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow. ~Lin Yutang They had a really interesting time. Ms Y became ill the first day and was in bed until the day before they left! The doctor came to their hotel twice and she was diagnosed with Altitude sickness, meaning her body could not tolerate the higher altitude. (They were staying in a town at the foot of the Andes Mountain range) She said that she had never had that kind of problem before, as she had been to Aspen, Colorado and also been to various places in the mountains of Japan. *(She used to live there.) But these things can come out of nowhere. She said her blood pressure went up, she had horrible headache and was sick to her stomach - just really an awful feeling. Then she had nose bleeds- OMG! Feel so bad for her! So they didn't get to do 1/2 of the stuff they had planned. :( (Yet, she still found time to get me such sweet gifts, awwwe) So maybe with the right meds she might be able to return, but at this point she is not thinking so. She is not a fan of taking medication so.... :( NO! She did say everyone in the hotel, the Doc and all they people they ran into were super nice and ready to help. Things were cheaper than in Texas, but were not as cheap as some people would have you believe. Her husband has been to most places in South America and he really liked Ecuador the best. But there are still many wonderful places left in the world to explore. And speaking exploring... One of my buddies from NOLA called me today and was giving me the full schedule for Sunday, this Sunday. Down to the last detail. I was like ok, don't know why, but ok. I listen and concur, "pretty busy one, you."
(My cajun kicked in lol) They: "Then like, um well, will that work? " Me: "Um K, Work with what, man?" They: "You have ride down to Quarter, I no pick you up, Cher? Or do I need?" Me: "K, I have way, man, No sweat." They: "What time your plane land, you?" Me: "HUH? Be Early one" They: "Uh-huh, Um how early one?" Me: ????? They: Silence ME: LAUGHS ASS OFF - "Really early one, in 10 days" HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA They: "NO Shit?! you not here Dimanche????!!!!! Thank GOD! I so busy, Cher. I throw all in river for you, Cher, but um that better one." So then one of my other friends viber me, with her schedule. She thought it was MONDAY! LOL I am reeking havoc in New Orleans and I haven't even arrived yet. LOL hahahhaah :) This is Your Life...Someone sent me this I did not make it.... April seems like its going to be a busy month. What with work, (of course) & a few home projects + I have a short trip to the beach with a couple of friends. Our goal is to get there before the weather turns off to 104'F (I kid you not) and I want to revisit some of the old missions deeper in the south, plus maybe go dancing a night or two; and the trip to New Orleans later in the month. BFF is trying to get me to Vegas for a weekend, but do not see how 0___0 No rest in April. But its ok, because I am doing what I love. Working hard at a job I love, helping my family and friends and exploring. What else could I ask for? |
